Our engagement photo. We set up shop in our living room and shot with a digital, rather than having it taken. The beginning of DIY mania!

A fairly recent picture of us in Las Vegas.

Location

We both wanted an outdoor wedding and decided to have both the ceremony and reception at Lake Temescal in Oakland. It's a beach house that sits overlooking a small lake and is surrounded by lots of trees and flowers. We will stand atop the staircase (left hand side of image) and the little waterfall will provide a nice backdrop for some of the "formal" portraits.

DIY Projects

FI and I both being designers are pretty crafty and so naturally were inclined to take on as many do it yourself projects as we could. This has proven to be one of the most enjoyable parts of the wedding process. We have had alot of fun working together and has made for a nice stress reliever.

Arch

My superman has built our arch! He did it all in one weekend - except the staining which we did on Easter. This is us under the finished piece. I love it! We will use it as our entry one fine day when we have a house!

Candleholders

Since we can't actually have real live candles outside for our reception, FI and I made candleholders to cover the nasty fake battery powered taper candles we had to buy. I was relieved to find some fairly inexpensive glasses that were narrow enough to act as candleholders and some really pretty organza that goes perfect with our color scheme. All in all this terribly frustrating ordeal turned out ok!

Ring

Jeff and I bought my engagement ring in November, 2003 and that was how we got engaged. Though it wasn't a "surprise" when he popped the question, it was no less romantic, as we took a late night stroll into the Oakland Rose Garden and had our "talk". He was absolutely a perfect gentleman and I felt so proud that night saying "yes"!

Bridal Attire

One of the first things I purchased was the dress. This is a St. Patrick's dress from 2003. It's satin with a reimbroidered tulle overlay and satin hem finish. I decided on ivory instead of white, hope the ladies don't gossip too much, but only because the color appeared much more becoming. White looked "machine made" on me. I'm happy with the dress, and think it will be perfect for our outdoor, not so formal event.

My veil - DIY from Amierae's Veil Bio.

The first try-on! Will need alterations of course, but the length came out good. Bridal assistant showing me possible bustle styles.

Figuring out what to do with all that train! It's so beautiful! I love how it turned out - actually longer than I expected.

Hair / Accessories

I'm researching hairstyles, but am working with my hairdresser to get my hair "back to blonde" for the wedding. I want a hairstyle that is loose and either up or partially up, and will pin stephanotis in my hair for sure.

The first go 'round - 1/2 up, 1/2 down, pretty, but not really my "style".

Pinned up and "pulled" to be a little more loose, but still elegant and formal.

Much better ;-) I will probably wear a flower or flowers in my hair as well.

Completed makeup. Nevermind the chicken pox all over my forehead! An allergic reaction that I'm still recooperating from.

Just a slight change in lipstick colors and I think we're good to go!

Which Earrings?

(Photos taken after hair / makeup with Lisa Zomer.) I can't decide between the two - the top are Swarovski crystal earrings and I think photograph much better, but the bottom earrings (Monet) probably "go" with my dress (there are pearls and crystals in the dress). I don't particularly care for pearl jewelry, but since my dress has them embroidered on, I thought I should at least try to work with them. What do you guys think?

Harpist - Sally Fletcher

I am ecstatic over Sally playing our wedding! I actually found her CD on iTunes and was inspired to hire a harpist. When I looked for one online, I found her, right here in the Bay Area! Definitely meant to be.
